elation in Misfortune
The role of relative rank, or interdependent preferences, in explaining individual well-being is a common one. An entertaining and insightful exploration of schadenfreude: the deliciously dark and complex joy we've all felt, from time to time. It is most often used in reference to the perverse pleasure we take pleasure in the face of someone else's misfortune. Jenna wants to know: is it ever okay to take joy in the misfortune of others.
